Breach of the Duty of Good Faith and Fair Dealing
An insurance policy is technically a contract between you and the insurance company. Because this is a contract, there is what California calls the duty of good faith and fair dealing. If an insurance company breaches that duty by refusing to cover a valid claim, then that is legally actionable.
